1st Annual SISU Snowshoe Set for January 16th

IRONWOOD, MI - Thursday, January 6, 2011 - Steep Creek Outfitters & Whitecap Kayak, the Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park and the SISU Ski Fest are proud to announce the first annual SISU Snowshoe, Sunday, January 16th at noon at the Ironwood Schools bus garage on Ayer Street (east of Lake Street). The free SISU Snowshoe is designed to highlight outdoor wellness while allowing the Range community to experience the Miners Memorial Heritage Park along portions of the previous day's SISU ski race.
Snowshoeing has been gaining in popularity in Gogebic and Iron Counties as exemplified by new snowshoe trails at Schomberg Park in Iron County, Wolverine Ski Area and the City of Ironwood's Miners Memorial Heritage Park and Cemetery Trails. The rise in popularity can be attributed to many factors including the low cost of the sport (roughly $125 per pair), increased availability of trails, its low-impact nature, year round access to one's favorite trails and winter nature viewing opportunities.
The SISU Snowshoe will kick off with an hour of snowshoe games followed by a 2K and 4K timed snowshoe race/fun run. Guided snowshoe walks by the Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park will offer glimpses into Ironwood's mining heritage. Multiple walks will be offered to cater to varying ability levels.
Please join in this community fun day to celebrate the great outdoors and a successful SISU ski festival!
